Description
The Dictionary of Art Historians is a long-standing privately-funded research tool begun in 1986. An open-source public database of historians of western art history, the Dictionary is supported by the Digital Art History and Visual Culture Research Lab (DAHVC) at Duke University. The founding purpose was to trace methodologies of past art historians through their intellectual biographies. Recent initiatives have included profiles on art historians exiled from Nazi Germany, women art historians, and art historians of color. Contributed by Duke University students, scholars and the public, the Dictionary focuses on historic art historians, rather than those practicing today.
