Description
The Thread Count Automation Project (TCAP), initiated in 2007, is dedicated to creating and disseminating computer-assisted, signal-processing-based tools that support conservators and art historians in their examination and analysis of fine art, in particular paintings on canvas.
Thread counting has a history of use for dating and attribution in studies of paintings. In these studies, the average of counts
of local density at various spots across the canvas of one painting is compared to the similar average for the canvas support of a separate painting as key evidence in claiming the two canvases are (or are not) from the same canvas roll.
