Paris Past and Present

Description

Paris Past and Present is a digital project that aims to create interactive 3D-digital models of great ‘lost’ monuments, architectural complexes, and diverse quartiers of medieval Paris. Through such reconstructions, we hope to make aspects of medieval architecture and urban life more accessible for the classroom and also to facilitate historical research requiring accurate virtual environments.

Our team members include undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral researchers as well as professors. Together we are currently reconstructing the architectural complexes of the Palais de la Cité and Saint-Germain des Prés. In the process, we have made a number of new insights about building practices, architects, as well as the structural properties, use, and function of medieval architecture.
